Laboratory manager in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Genomics (MCBO-2_10/2024)

ICTER seeks applicants with a PhD degree and experience in molecular biology and genomics. The group is led by Dr. Marcin Tabaka (PI) and leverages high-throughput single-cell RNA and ATAC sequencing to address fundamental questions in eye research.

We are looking for applicants for the Laboratory manager position, experienced in scientific activity who will be expected to maintain and develop wet lab infrastructure, be responsible for management of the workflow in the research group and will help determining standard practices and procedures. The manager will have direct impact on R&D work by streamlining external and internal communication, taking part in technology transfer, dissemination of the work from the Lab and Centre, etc.

Remuneration: 12 000 PLN gross/month.

Position starts on: to be arranged with a candidate.

Maximum period of contract: 31 December 2028.

The „International Centre for Translational Eye Research” project is carried out within the MAB FENG action 02.01. of the Foundation for Polish Science co-financed by the European Union under the European Regional Development Fund, European Funds for Smart Economy, agreement no. FENG.02.01-IP.05-T005/23. It is a collaboration between the Institute of Physical Chemistry PAS and University College London, UK.

Project description: The International Centre for Translational Eye Research (ICTER) is a multi-investigator centre for eye research as related to imaging and biochemical techniques to support advances in understanding the etiology and treatment of human blinding diseases. The new research agenda (carried under International Research Agenda project no. FENG.02.01-IP.05-T005/23) aims to develop new tools for safer and more effective surgical interventions, new therapies for eye diseases, and diagnostic methods to improve prognosis and restore vision. The main technology to be developed under this program will be a novel robotic system for delivering drugs to the eye and performing a tissue biopsy, in which a robotic system will assist in the micromanipulation of the injection device with 3-D localized imaging.

Key responsabilities include:

  1. Maintain institutional protocols for lab, experiments and animal work
  2. Develop and maintain lab infrastructure
  3. Ordering of lab supplies and reagents
  4. Active participation in the creation and management of grant applications
  5. Coordination of regulatory issues (Ethics committee approvals, Equipment safety and efficacy, due diligence documentation)
  6. Coordination with Legal, Technology Transfer Offices and Patent lawyers for Intellectual Property management and all other legal issues
  7. Ensure financial and administrative project follow-up: track project financial performance and report accordingly, and track of project progress and meet workplan deadlines/deliverables
  8. Coordination of regular events agenda (calendar management, group meetings, seminars, scientific paper discussion meetings, online meetings, work events, etc.)
  9. Supervision of students

Profile of candidates/requirements:

  1. MSc or PhD degree in molecular biology, biotechnology, genomics or related field
  2. Solid knowledge and familiarity with laboratory techniques in molecular biology and genomics
  3. Ability to work in interdisciplinary team and manage projects and people
  4. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  5. Proactive, organized, with good time management
  6. Excellent problem-solving skills
  7. Experience with Microsoft and Google-based platforms (Word, Excel, Gmail, Google Calendar)
  8. Experience in grant management and knowledge of funding opportunities at the local/national/EU-international levels
  9. Direct experience with management and coordination of scientific research, public tenders and equipment procurement especially in public Polish research institutions, etc.
