International Centre for Translational Eye Research (ICTER) (MAB/2019/12)

The Project/Centre is funded within the International Research Agendas Programme of the Foundation for Polish Science. It is a collaboration between the Institute of Physical Chemistry PAS and the University College London, UK.

The International Centre for Translational Eye Research (ICTER) is a multi-investigator centre for eye research as related to imaging and biochemical techniques to support advances in understanding the etiology and treatment and human blinding diseases. Further information on the research priorities and current expertise of our Centre can be found at http://www.icter.pl.

ICTER is looking for candidates with a PhD degree experienced in physics, optics and photonics, and biomedical engineering data analysis. Candidates should be interested in translational research and the development of new therapies to cure blindness or other diseases. The candidate will have a direct impact on lab development and its success in publishing in high-impact factor journals. The person will be also responsible for performing dynamic research to create a competitive research group. The position will be assigned to Optical Imaging Group led by Prof. Maciej Wojtkowski, focused on developing new imaging techniques aiming at achieving speckle-less imaging based on full-field swept-source optical coherence tomography, for diagnosis, screening, and monitoring of blinding eye diseases.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Implementation and development of data processing algorithms (Matlab/Python/C++)
  2. Designing and .prototyping new processing approaches/algorithms for structural and functional (blood flow) human eye renderings from 4D datasets.
  3. Designing and developing new optical instruments for optical imaging and sensing.
  4. Performing data analysis, quantifying results.
  5. Writing publications and reports.
  6. Active participation in conferences.
  7. Assisting students and postdocs.

More Information

Remuneration: 20 000 PLN gross/month.

Position starts on: 1 April 2022 (and onwards, depending on applicant’s availability).
Maximum period of contract 31/12/2023.

Skills/Qualifications

Profile of candidates/requirements:

  1. PhD diploma in physics, photonics, engineering, or similar field obtained.
  2. Experience in biophotonics and interferometry.
  3. Experience with spatial light modulators.
  4. Advanced signal and image processing skills with proficiency in MATLAB or Python.
  5. Very good knowledge of C# and C++.
  6. Experience in Machine Learning frameworks (TensorFlow, Keras).
  7. Good knowledge of Git version control system.
  8. Experience in working in a multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural team.
  9. Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  10. Analytical and critical problem-solving skills mindset.
  11. Proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
