Research Assistant in Bioinformatics (vacancy filled)


We have an open position for a Research Assistant in Bioinformatics with a focus on analyzing high-throughput single-cell transcriptomics/epigenomics data and developing new analytical and scalable computational tools. The candidate should have a background in math and computer sciences. No medical or genomics background is required; just the inclination to acquire such knowledge is a must.

Eligibility criteria

Evaluation criteria:

1. Knowledge of bioinformatics, computer science, statistics, and machine learning

2. Prior experience in analyzing high-dimensional data

3. Experience with Python and/or R

4. Familiarity with Unix command-line tools

5. Competences of the candidate with respect to specific tasks in a research project

6. Previous educational/scientific achievements

Selection process

Successful candidates fulfilling the main eligibility criteria and qualifications will be invited for an interview. Competition results shall be announced no earlier than 31.08.2022.

  • Computer science: Master Degree or equivalent
  • Biological sciences: Master Degree or equivalent
  • Mathematics: Master Degree or equivalent
  • Physics: Master Degree or equivalent


  1. Ph.D./M.Sc degree in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Math, Statistics, Physics or related quantitative discipline
  2. Strong background in computer science and math
  3. Background in statistics and machine learning
  4. Experience in analyzing high-dimensional data
  5. Knowledge of bioinformatics tools for analysis of genomics datasets is a strong plus
  6. Experience with python and/or R
  7. Familiarity with Unix command-line tools
  8. Excellent communication and organizational skills
  9. Ability to work independently and interact effectively in an interdisciplinary team
  10. Proficiency in English, both spoken and written
