Joanna Kartasiewicz shares experience with Horizon Europe

As the Horizon Europe programme enters its final phase, research institutions across Poland are sharing their experiences on how to successfully obtain and implement European research grants. One such event was the InfoDay “The final stretch of Horizon Europe – seize your opportunity!”, held in Warsaw on 3-4 February 2026. Joanna Kartasiewicz from ICTER participated as a speaker in a panel discussion dedicated to Widening instruments.

The event was organised by the National Contact Point for EU Research Programmes at the National Centre for Research and Development. One of the key elements of the programme was a panel discussion focusing on Widening instruments, which aim to strengthen the research capacity of countries with lower participation in EU framework programmes.

During the panel, Joanna Kartasiewicz shared practical insights from the preparation and implementation of projects funded under these instruments, including Teaming projects, which support the establishment and development of centres of excellence across Europe:

“Widening instruments, including Teaming, offer research institutions a major opportunity to develop infrastructure, build international partnerships and strengthen their scientific position in Europe. During the panel, I shared our experience both from preparing the proposal and from implementing the project – two very different but equally demanding stages,” said Joanna Kartasiewicz from ICTER.

Discussion on the future of the programme

The panel also featured representatives from the Institute of Nuclear Physics PAS, the University of Gdańsk, and the Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center. The discussion focused on the practical opportunities offered by Widening instruments, the key challenges institutions face when applying for such projects, and how the programme could evolve in the future to better achieve its objectives.
