70 Years of IChF PAS. Science, Friendship and the Future

The Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Polish Academy of Sciences (IChF PAS) celebrated its 70th anniversary in Warsaw. The event honored the institute’s legacy, looked ahead to the future of research, and highlighted the people – scientists and administrators alike – who make science possible.

Prof. Stefan Bräse closed the opening session with a symbolic toast: “To science, to friendship, to the future!”. The highlight was the panel “Vision of Vision”, where Prof. Maciej Wojtkowski shared ICTER’s journey – now a team of 67, expanding global partnerships and soon moving into its new building on the IChF campus.

Prof. Andrzej Szeptycki, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, emphasized the importance of long-term vision and international collaboration for Poland’s scientific future.

Ribbon-cutting and honoring people

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was led by Prof. Marek Konarzewski (President of the Polish Academy of Sciences), Prof. Maciej Żylicz (President of the Foundation for Polish Science), Prof. Adam Kubas (Director of IChF), Prof. Marcin Drąg (Founder of the Centre for Chemical Biology), and Anna Pawlus (Managing Director of ICTER).

The celebration also honored the “unsung heroes” of science – the administrative teams. A commemorative plaque was unveiled for Prof. Jerzy Herbich, whose 47 years of dedication to IChF exemplify how excellence in management underpins excellence in research.

The 70th anniversary reaffirmed that great science is built on both groundbreaking discoveries and strong foundations of teamwork and support. As part of this community, ICTER is proud to help shape the next chapter of biomedical research in Poland and Europe.
